AIR CURTAIN INCINERATOR PERMIT APPLICATION

Kitimat Fire & Ambulance - Air Curtain Incinerator Permit Application 

In accordance with the Kitimat Municipal Code, Part 5, Division 1, Section: 5.1.22, 5.1.23 – Fire Protection, permit application for an Air Curtain Incinerator Permit.
For inquiries, please contact Prevention Officer (Mon. to Fri.) 250-632-8940 EXT 4231. Application may be emailed to fire@kitimat.ca or dropped off at 1101 Kingfisher Ave, Kitimat, BC.

CONDITIONS

1. The permittee shall be responsible for fires authorized by this permit.

2. The permittee shall be responsible for adhering to the BC Open Burning Smoke Control regulations specifically Division 5 Air Curtain Incinerators.

3. The permittee shall adhere to and be responsible for compliance to smoke sensitivity zones, as indicated BC Open Burning Smoke Control Regulations, Local Bylaws – Kitimat Municipal Code, Part 5, Section. 5.1.22 & 5.1.23, fire bans and restrictions.

4. Determine a location to operate the air curtain incinerator. Buring conditions are determined based on your distance from residential, business and care facilities.

5. An air curtain burner cannot be operated less than 100 metres from residences and businesses, and 500 metres from a school, hospital, or community care facility.

6. Air curtain burners can operate 100 metres to 1 kilometer from residences and business and 500 metres to 2 kilometres from schools, hospitals, and day care centres under the following conditions: a) Check ventilation index or custom index., b) Poor = NO BURNING c) Good or Fair = BURN d) Start 1 hour after sunrise until sunset

7. The permittee shall totally extinguish all fire authorized by this permit on or prior to the expiry date of the permit or shall extinguish them forthwith upon suspension or cancellation of the permit; or when instructed to do so by an Officer of the Kitimat Fire Department.

8. The permit holder must not start open burning or add material to the air curtain to: a) negatively impact a nearby population b) be a navigation hazard at nearby airports or highways by significantly reducing visibility. The permittee shall also abide by the following special conditions while acting under this permit. Follow waste management rules.

9. The permittee shall ensure the material to be burned is a minimum of 12 metres from standing timber, brush or other flammable materials.

10. The permittee shall provide at the site during light up and duration of the burn, the following staffing and equipment for patrolling and preventing the escape of the fire authorized by this permit.
